The SanDisk Optimus 5100 500GB NVMe SSD is designed to deliver a strong balance between high-speed PCIe 4.0 performance and affordability. Its compact M.2 2280 design makes it suitable for compatible desktop PCs and laptops, providing a straightforward upgrade from older SATA SSDs or lower-performance NVMe storage.

Using a PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe interface, the 500GB Optimus 5100 delivers sequential read speeds of up to 6,600MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 5,600MB/s. These speeds provide significantly faster access to applications, large files and operating system data when paired with a compatible PCIe 4.0 platform.

Random performance reaches up to 660K IOPS for reads and an impressive 1.1 million IOPS for writes, helping the drive remain responsive when handling workloads involving numerous smaller files, application data and multitasking. Actual performance can vary according to the host system, workload and operating conditions.

SanDisk incorporates its nCache™ 4.0 technology to support seamless application multitasking and fast file-copy performance. The Optimus 5100 family also uses SanDisk’s 8th-generation BiCS QLC 3D CBA NAND, allowing the range to combine high capacities and strong PCIe 4.0 performance with a value-oriented design.

The drive measures just 80 × 22 × 2.38mm and weighs approximately 5.7g, following the widely supported M.2 2280 form factor. SanDisk specifies compatibility with systems featuring an M.2 2280 port and PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, with Windows 10 and newer listed as supported operating systems.

Users can monitor drive performance and check for firmware updates through the downloadable SANDISK Dashboard application for Windows. SanDisk also offers Acronis® True Image™ for SANDISK, which can assist with transferring existing data to the new SSD, subject to SanDisk’s software terms and eligibility requirements.

For reliability across different operating environments, the Optimus 5100 is rated for operating temperatures from 0°C to 85°C and non-operating temperatures from -40°C to 85°C. SanDisk backs the drive with a 5-year limited warranty.
